Virgin Media warning

Hi all,

A couple of months ago I got a letter from virgin saying that from May my broadband bill was being moved onto my phone bill. So I thought that meant that I wouldn't get the May broadband bill, that it'd be all lumped together in the later phone bill. Wrong! Apparantly it's been put back till June but they didn't bother telling me. Which means that the broadband bill went out yesterday leaving me overdrawn and facing a load of bank charges. So if anyone else is expecting to get their bills combined this month beware!

PS any chance I can claim these charges back? I'm on benefits so I can use that line, but I've had charges for the last two months, which I understand I got, these though I'd like to get back because it's not my fault.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Im a bit confused on this.

As i am with Virgin Media and have all 3 products (tv,broadband, phone) and my bill has always been as 1 bill, not 3 seperate bills.

So surely having broadband and the phone should be the same, 1 bill

    Hi Ames

I'm with Virgin Media too (thinking of changing though). I only have 1 bill for all three as service charges. However, if you make calls on your Virgin Media telephone line (I rarely use mine) you do get a seperate charge fot that.

Could this be where the confusion is?

No, for mine I've always had the tv and phone together and the internet separate. A couple of months ago I got a letter saying they were combining them, and they told me when I phoned to cancel the tv a couple of weeks ago that all my bills were due to go out on the 16th this month. But apparantly they've put back the merging until June now. I've no idea why they've made mine separate for the last five years!

Oh and I've always had the phone call charges in with the phone line and tv service charges. Sounds like they've got all kinds of different set ups going on!

There are different billing systems on the go so some people like myself get 2 bills for services wheras others would get one bill for everything. When the upgrading of the systems does eventually happen  we should all get one bill for everything

If the way they took payment breaks the details of the letter you got saying when and where payment will be taken from (part of how direct debits work) they have broke the terms of the direct debit and they would have to pay any charges you have incurred

It doesn't give a date though in the letter, it just says 'from May' then on the phone today they told me it had been put back until June, but I think they should have told me. They basically said it was my own fault for not just waiting until the new payment scheme was in place before believing them, I found them quite rude.

From what i've heard that should be about now - i think they had the system largely locked down for the past couple of weeks (no changes in services or modems could be activated) whilst they made the switch to the new system.

IIRC NTL at one point had something like 3 or 4 billing systems depending on area (and which smaller cable company orginally ran it), hence some people getting different bills for each service, and some getting a single bill.
