I don't know what meals you are cooking, but i'm sure you don't need idiot proof recipes, because i'm sure you're not an idiot. You might be trying to do too much, sometimes we try to juggle so many tasks as well as cooking a nice meal for our family to eat and then we berate ourselves if it's less than perfection. My only advise is to use fairly simple recipes that don't require a mammoth amount of effort and give yourself the time to cook the meal without trying to do ten other thingd at the same time! Also, use a kitchen timer so you know how long things are in the oven etc, and that way things won;t get overcooked/spoilt. Don't be so hard on yourself!

I downloaded this for a friend who was looking for some basic recipes to get started and have tried some myself.

It's the book that's going or recently went into schools and covers things like stir fry, spag bol, apple crumble, veg curry and savoury rice.

  • Thank you so much for the recipes and links. I have copies out your recipes and printed off recipes from the links. My goal is to be a good basic cook with a few recipes that I have perfected and my family will love. I want my daughter to grow up thinking "oh my mum's (whatever) was the best ever" :D not "ugh my mum's cooking is awful" :(

If anyone has any more recipes/links I'll be very glad of them ;)

Owens3116....I have the jamie oliver ministry of food book out of the library and will attempt a few of his recipes. I made the chilli con carne recipe on Monday and OH said it was ok but too watery

Have a look at Delia Smith's website - think it's www.deliaonline.co.uk. Click on the section marked "Cookery School" (I think) - advice on how to cook lots of different things, even how to boil an egg! I'm an adequate cook but wish to improve my skills, so I may well use this site.

This site has wonderful recipes and the video for each recipe shows the ingredients, how to combine them and how to cook.
  • If anyone has any more recipes/links I'll be very glad of them ;)

There's an older thread of them - I'll merge this one :D I've taken another look and Pink-winged has linked to loads more threads.
