me too! this worries me because although i wasn't dismissed from my last job (it was a fixed term contract), i was refused an extension of my contract based on the fact i'd taken "too much sick leave". now i understand that's to protect employers from people skiving, but i had taken up all my sick leave because i'd had 3 bereavements in the space of 4 months while working there and wasn't entitled to compassionate lave as none were family members. a couple of weeks after i returned i took 2 days off sick, and was pulled into a disciplinary, got completely patronised by my manager and the area manager, and was put on a warning. there was no compassion or understanding for what i was going through and no acknowledgement of the fact i'd often turned up to work whilst ill when i really should have resting.

i'm scared this will come up on this new database (i suppose taking too much sick leave counts as breaking my contract/misconduct) and i won't have the chance to explain it to prospective employers (i've been jobless since feb and beginning to think this is the reason i'm not being contacted for positions i've applied for).

it just makes me more and more angry every time i think about it. the very reason i took that job was to build a good reference. now it seems like it just wasn't worth it. i had enough troubles at that place anyway but i endured them because i really wanted to see the contract through. i do really hope they set up the equivalent for ex employees but i'm not holding my breath!

sorry that turned into a bit of a rant, but i'm sick of s**tty employers!
