Bailiff visit.............

Good morning everyone, i awoke this morning by the sound of a bailiff knocking on my front door at 7pm telling me that i owed £292 + his £176 costs for knocking on my door because i had outstanding council tax payments (which i didn't know about).
I have a direcrt debit set up to pay each household bill and apparently i had missed two payments last year and have not been informed that the direct debit had been stopped for some reason let alone that i had any outstanding payments, so in my absence it has gone to court etc etc. now can i pay just the outstanding amount of council tax or do i have to also pay this extortionate bailiff fee as well by law. Please help

I would suggest you ring the council and talk to them.
Did they not send you any warning letters of missed payments.?Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

No entry was made by the Bailiff and nothing was signed i was just given some paperwork titled 'Notice of distress and inventory' which had the following amounts due listed:
council tax £292.00
levy fee £34.00
attendance/removal costs £142.50
and another letter which says they will return by 10am to remove goods0 -
Whatever you do DO NOT let them in under any circumstances, especially if they come back.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

so what can he charge if i want to make payment today, can you also give me a reference for this............0

be careful that when he comes back that he doesn't try and put his foot over the thresh-hold of your door as then its classed as entry gained (hope this is still correct as i saw it on a tv programme)0
