Hi All,
My Husband and I are about to become Godparents to our 2 nephews. However, I can't think of any modern gifts to give them.
Can anyone suggest anything?
Thank you

I gave my godson a big pile of books that i thought would see him through his childhood - dictionary, enclyopedia, Bible, Roald Dahl collection, Thomas Tank Engine collection and a few other factual books - with a note in them saying this is the most vauable gift I could gift him and the best investment in his future. Give him a love of reading and his own library of learning.
His other Godmother gave him a beautiful crystal Winnie the pooh figurine, but i think mine is more useful.0 -
My daughters have been given great presents. Some of my favourites have been a cross stitch picture with details of their name, date of birth etc. some premium bonds (a good money saving one) a set of Mr men books (given to daughter number one 11 years ago, still being used for daughter number 3) Some boots vouchers for me to use (that was from a very practical friend) Classic childrens tv prog. videos eg. Bagpuss etc.
We have also been given figures from childrens stories eg. Bunnykins, but these, whilst lovely have been put away to keep them safe.
I like useful presents, you could also consider buying a set of sittings at a photograph to be used within five years.
Hope this helps0 -
For my cousins daughters christening I named a star after them, you get a certificate and chart showing position of star etc.
Available from quite a few places on the net, different prices for different packages but starting from about £20 if I remember rightly.

When I had my two children christened I liked receiving the traditional wooden toys. For our daughter we got some wooden bookends and one Godparent had a local cabinet maker make a simple wooden box with a hinged lid which was superb and will last her for years. Our son got a wooden jack-in-the-box and an old treasure chest from an antique shop. We've just bought a small wooden simple 3-legged stool as a present for our Godson.
There's always a Children's bible which don't have to be seen as religious (if you're not). I just see them as a collection of bedtime stories about being nice & kind to one another. Be careful though and make sure they don't go on about God hating the bad people and wanting to punish them (Something I read in one about the Noah's Ark story). A bit strong for children that! The Lion First Bible is a nice one.0 -

from phone conversations with family/friends coming to junior tides christening in a couple of weeks he'll have 4 'unique, wonderful' money boxes
and no money to put in them!
(for the people who did ask we've suggested money to either pool and put in Premium Bonds in his name or into his CTF)0 -
I like the idea of some lovely bookends and a nice book (either the Winnie the Pooh or Beatrix Potter (the lovely bound ones you can buy in Waterstones)).
With the promise for each special occasion, birthday, Christmas, Easter etc, they will get a special book(s) from you. You can write in the front cover for them to make it special.
Choose books you always loved to read, and that way you help their education at the same time.
Depending on how much money you are planning on spending, my niece was given a beautiful book case to be mounted on the wall, and all the really lovely books can be stored on it and admired. It is the nicest gift I have seen.0 -
We recieved many Christening gifts, some useful, some less so, but the presents that I (and eventually my children) enjoyed most were those that were unsuitable for them as babies. I put them away and was able to bring them out when they were of an appropriate age to use/appreciate them, and tell them all about their Christening and who gave them the gifts.
My daughter recieved some lovely jewelry and first edition books and my sons fountain pens, paperweights and limited edition model cars.
I think anything that you give with thought will be very much appreciated.

my son got given some winnie the pooh boxes to hold his first curl & his first tooth. my mum liked them so much she bought them for the next 2 babies whose Christenings she went to. think they were from argos. also he got some lovely children's cutlery - useful when older. you can get personalised kid's cutlery from the studio catalogue now at half price, only about £3.50 I think but u will have to pay postage. not sure where else would sell them.Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0
