I found this in the Big Issue magazine this morning. Download their festival playlist and an audiobook for free. Works on any ipod or MP3 player:

I havn't done it myself so i don't know what it entails.

This is not a problem in this case because emusic.com is a professional and official subscription download service for the music it makes available, and one of the largest online music distribution services around - well over 3 million tracks and albums to choose from.
The problem you mention is when downloading illegally from torrents and other illegal download sites. And if you are doing that (illegally downloading) then you deserve what you get IMO.
Currently, you can get 35 free downloads from emusic - including a free audio book - when you sign up for a completely free trial. The tracks are DRM-free mp3 files (so you're not stuck using specific hardware like with iTunes), and you get to keep them afterwards, copy them, burn to CD< put on mp3 players - legally - even if you decide not to start a paid subscription membership. You need a credit card to sign up to verify your identity, but you pay nothing up front and you can cancel before the two weeks are up (and legally keep your music).
I found this link will get you the two-week, 35 free track trial:

I followed that link, downloaded a couple of LacunaCoil albums, a Stephen King audiobook, and was going to just quit the site after my free stuff but found it such a great service for legal music downloads that I stuck with it.0 -

This looks like quite a good site - thanks for the post!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi Guys,
Just a word of warning, I signed upto a free trail with this company before and after I cancelled, they emailed confirming this, they still took money. So check your statements.
It was rectified pretty quickly though.
Just thought I'd advise you, but as you're all ardent MSE's, I'm sure you all check your statements immediately anyway!ITV Winners Club Member (106)

hm.. free right? so why the need for c/card details?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
I took this offer up and got a 17 hour audiobook of Don Quixote, and 3 albums. They do not have much in the way of the older stuff though...no Pink Floyd or David Bowie!0

I took out a trial with them and cancelled before the end of the trial and wasn't charged and got to keep the tracks i downloaded :j It's a good site although it's probably not going to be of interest for people who are looking for more commercial music. It's mainly for music lovers who are looking for artists/bands who are signed to independent labels.
