leaded windows

Hello everyone, this is my first time on here so youll have to be gentle..
my husband has decided to remove the leading from our windows as he doesnt like it anymore. The lead has come off really easy, unfortunately it has left the pattern where lead was and we have tried everything we can think of to get it off (even oven cleaner) but nothing seems to work, solvent cleaner, cillit bang, vinegar, white spirit, to name just a few, please can anyone who has had leaded windows and removed lead tell us how to get rid of the marks... PLEASE,, thank you poll.

I think expanding foam gun cleaner is supposed to remove the sticky residue left by lead on windows, you should be able to get it from diy stores or specialist decorating shops.

    This sort of cleaner:

hello ebaybaby, well we tried to get sum but couldnt find any in our nearby shops so we tried a few other things inc petrol which was definately supposed to work (it doesnt). we tried a few upvc cleaners and one works a lot better than any of the others its called thompsons upvc restorer (think its made by ronseal), weve been cleaning same window for 3 days now (full house is leaded and patio doors and glass porch) and weve just tried this one today and finally got one window finished, its still hard work but definately the best thing upto now, if i find anything better (i keep trying anything i find) i'll let you know, nail polish remover works a bit, but not as good as thompsons cleaner upvc, hope it helps and good luck, i wish we'd never started it now.. bye poll
