Netcars - Advice Please

Hi All,

I'm in some need of advice. My wife has just applied for car finance from netcars with the understanding that they would arrange the finance and we could go and pick a car that we liked from mostly any dealer. So the application gets approved and then the women starts asking my wife what car she wants. My wife explains that she would like a car from a particular place. The women stopped her and explained that a few weeks ago they took away this service and that now she has to buy a car from netcars and that she couldn't go anywhere else. My wife explained thats not what it says on the website (www.netcars.co.uk) where she made application. The women at netcars then explains that unfortunately my wife applied through the wrong website and that she should've used carfinance.netcars.co.uk. The women then explains that they have already carried out a credit check and theres nothing we can do.

Obviously my problem is firstly that we wanted to purchase a car from somewhere else instead of netcars (they appear to be rather expensive and you don't get to see the car until it arrives on your doorstep). Secondly the website mentioned that there is no deposit....the women asked for £199 as deposit and they wouldn't take our old car as part ex.

Is there anything we can do to get the search removed? I mean they are apparently regulated by the FSA, but does that mean anything? Or maybe I'm banging my head against a brick wall and theres nothing we can do about it. We're wanting to speak to their complaints department, but I'd rather get some ammo first.....if theres any available.

Thanks in advance

If I were you I would just walk away from this.

If you look at their web site under "about us" - The owners of this concern appear to be Manchester based motor traders and, from what you say, it appears they want to steer you to a car that they can sell you and hence take profit from the sale of the car and the sale of the finance.

One search on your credit file means nothing in itself and has no deterimental effect on your ability to obtain credit - so do not worry about that.

If you had say, a number of credit searches on or about the same time then it is this that starts to effect your credit rating.

You are not commited to anything in this case - I would just forget it and move on.

May be better going to a local dealer where you can p/x your old car?
  • Anyone else done a deal with carfinance.netcars.co.uk ? You have to pay administration fee of £149 for them to secure the car. Go to their office in Manchester to collect the car or pay a delivery charge. Any other charges?

They do ask some usual questions, like bank account details even before processing your application.
Do they offer early repayment option?

    Tell me about your experience.

    Thank you

    Hi All,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that Netcars Car Finance has changed its name in mid 2010 to Car scam artists 247.
