Unfortunately they look more like this! It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.
What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.
The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Wow, pania - I don't know how I missed this thread.
Thank you, so much, for so eloquently expressing the thoughts of the majority of poster on DFW, and indeed throughout the 'MSE family'.
I had been thinking, just the other day, how nice it was that the 'T Rolls' had appeared to have left us in relative peace for the last couple of months. Indeed the last activity by my own 'personal stalker' was back in January, and I was thinking of starting a thread just to thank the moderators for making this whole site a better place by excluding these vitriolic saddos.
Then, as if from the blue, my peace has been shattered over the last two days. I did not see the particularily nasty remarks of the 'troll' that you reported (moderators get up earlier than me) but have seen at least two 'newbie' threads trashed by the 'cutting' and abusive comments of at least one of the aforementioned parasites. Fortunately that has been dealt with, both by the reasoned response of a couple of the more experienced members of this forum, and by the swift reactions of the moderators.
Unfortunately, though, it does look as if we may have 'lost' one of the 'newbie' posters, whose case tragically involved debt after the death of his father.
I don't know what 'drives' someone to take up the cudgel of a Troll - I'm sure that sexual inadequacy may play a large part, but we must not, also, forget that some of these 'internet marauderers' are deliberately placed here by the very institutions whose behaviour caused most of us to come here in the first place. As this forum grows, both in numbers and in knowledge, it begins to pose a real threat to the 'Easy Living' that has, so far and with little resistance, been made out of the exploitation of debt.
I agree, wholeheartedly, that this thread should be made into a 'sticky', or at least be made compulsory reading for any 'newbie'.
A 'Troll Warning' could, also be included in the 'header'.
Once again, pania, thank you for starting this thread, and, as one poster once put it:May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotches of all 'Trolls'
And may their arms be too short to scratchI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Oh Rog, that was so eloquently put. In combination with linda's picture, i now have a few images in my head..... but very funny.
I do hope the other Newbie comes back, or is indeed just lurking and getting the advice he or she needs.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
The other little bit I wanted to add, was that I hope people will no longer set up threads, with the view of trying to gain knowledge in order to exploit others..... with links to their own nefarious websites.
I feel that these kind of people are also in the Troll category, and i am pleased to see that the moderators on the board have begun to act against threads such as these.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

All trolls will be promptly bathed as thus:
