In 2006 I owed Lloyds TSB £3500, I was contacted by a debt collector, and he said to wipe the debt they would accept £2000, so I took out a loan and paid it. I have just had a phone call telling me I still owe £1500, I told him I did not and told him not to ring again, he was threatening court? what am I legally to do? I do not know which debt collection agency got the £2000 but I never heard from them again. By the way the money was run up before 2000,

As the above poster has said, do you have a letter saying that the £2K was a full and final settlement of the debt?
If you dont im not 100% sure what to suggest.

No it was over the phone, and I was assured I would hear no more, I haven't for 2 year and now a phone call out of the blue.0

I believe it said settled on my credit report0

Do you have the details of the person who made the offer, date, time and such. Its worth a try but I have the feeling they have screwed you on this one.Barclaycard 3800

no, I paid a lot of debt off at the time, and was all done over the phone, but I'm sure I checked my credit reports a few months later and found they had all been settled.0

I would recheck your files to see what they say now other than that wait for others with more knowledge to come on later. One way or the other we will get it sorted for you.Barclaycard 3800

Deffo agree with this. I think stuff stays on your credit file for 6 years even if it is settled, so should still be on there?
Fingers crossed you get it all sorted and you can tell them to stick it! :beer:Debt: just my mortgage0
