Last year in June I was made redundant and with school commitments, nearly the six weeks holiday and then changing to full time school in sept i put offf finding a new job. Anyway started a new job the last week in March this year. I paid tax the last tax year 07/08, but didn't actually earn enough about £3,000 in the whole year. I paid about £200 in tax. I didn't get any benefits as I hadn't paid enough NI in the previous 2 years.
Will this tax I paid be given back to me in my new wages or do I have to claim.
Thanks

The Job Centre should have made a refund to you at the end of the tax year. Have you received a P60U from the JC? If you have, and have not received a refund, you need to send the P60U to your tax office and give them details of all your income for the year 07-08 and ask for a refund.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

The job centre dont refund any tax overpayments, you have to go through the tax office at the end of the tax year.:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! They do because I received one a couple of weeks ago. I had claimed a big rebate from the tax office then got the JC one a couple of weeks later.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

For the same tax year?:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
For the same tax year?
No. I claimed for tax year 06-07 from Tax Office. The JC letter telling me about my rebate came a day after I received a P60 from the JC dated tax year 08.
The second rebate definately came from JC though. Its listed on my online bank account as "Bank Credit XXXXXX(my NI #) Dwp Jsa"
Its listed the same as my JSA payment.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

They led us to beleive that they dont eal with Tax issues as they dont operate PAYE ~ OH had to claim his through HMRC.
Typical of everywhere nowadays that no two people give the same answer :heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -

I know what you mean but must add that I didn't ask for them to look into it or anything. It came as a total surprise to me to get a rebate through the JC.
When I first got the letter I thought that they were stopping my JSA for some reason, but when I opened it I got a surprise

It may be because you are still in receipt of JSA at the end of the tax year. OH's ended in Dec
