Beauty products 'alikes' and alternatives

Just curious to know if anyone knows of good comparables of beauty and skin care products as well as good alternatives/ beauty brand alikes.?
For example,. many say that Clarins make M&S skin care stuff - so would the products be good alternativevs. Also have read that some Tesco own brand stuff (not sure which ones) are good 'copies/alike' to Liz Earles stuff. Garniers blemish gel is a good alternative to CLiniques blemish gel.
It would be good to share some info. especially if some have tried both the 'premium' brands and found another good comparable - especially as money is tight in many aspects (petrol, gas, electiricity, food, mortgages....................) anyway....!???
