How to negotiate higher pay for new job

Hi,
Have just been offered an internal job with my company. Last month I got a good payrise (10%) at the annual pay round. The offer for the new job is to increase by 2.7%. The new role is in the offices, just over three times as far as my current journey to work. This will cost a huge amount in petrol, not covered by the 2.7% rise - additional cost £2k. How would moneysavingexperts go about this - is it worth raising or will it look greedy in the context of a big rise this year already. It is a much better job anyway, but it would be good not to be out of pocket with it..... Suggestions on how to formulate a response appreciated.

    as stated elsewhere, ask when your boss looks like they are not busy, and explain the situation. Just say that to cover the extra fuel costs in getting to work, its going to leave you out of pocket compared to now, and add in your sums about it. That way the boss can see the effect it will have on your budget and may get you a raise.

    Just ask (easier said than done I know).
    IMHO when you move internally a company will often try & offer you less than going rate. If they had to employ someone from outside they would potentially have to pay agency fees & going market rate & therefore by offering you job they have probably saved a few quid. However, I think the key here is whether if you had moved jobs before pay increase (which in current climate is pretty good one) would you have got 12.7% rise or still just the 2.7%?

    Just to prove you're not trying to pull a fast one, ask them if they would be prepared to cover the additional travel expenses. Maybe ask for a fuel card.

    well they wouldn't have any of it, as I had applied for the job so there wasn't a specific business need for me to move! That was from the HR dept though, so typical.
