Play.com refund

Hi, i recently pruchased a sweex router ?(http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3510453/Sweex-DSL-LW050UKV2-54Mbps-WiFi-Broadband-Router/Product.html) from play.com.

the router was sent no problem, but now i have discovered it does not actually do what i first thought it did. i thought i could use it as a wireless broadband router by plugging a phone line straight into the back of it, but this is not so! one requires a seperate modem to do this. i feel this is not mde apparent from the product description, so i was just wondering what sort of come back i woud have on this?

does anyone has any advice on what to do in this situation? perhaps you have dealt with play.com in the past? any help is greatly appreceated, Thanks!!

The title of the product gives the info you missed
Sweex DSL LW050UKV2 54Mbps WiFi Broadband Router

It's a DSL Router which means it works on Cable Broadband
To use on a phone line you need ADSL

I know it doesnt help but should you not have investigated it further eg do i require a modem to connect to the modem for me to access the router wireless, it may not be what you want to hear

  • If it's within 7 days then you should be able to return it due to distance selling regulations with no questions asked.

These things happen..it''s not really a matter of investigation...
I work in IT, I've set up my fair share of networks, but the other week I was in a rush, went into Maplins and did just what the OP's done. It was only when I got it home I thought "Oh man, that's why this one was a tenner less than the other one". I took it back without a problem and I'd expect Play will do the same.

    I think the "average punter" doesn't really realise there's a difference between a router and a modem/router anyway...so I expect it's something that happens a lot.

I can also vouch for Play being pretty good with their returns. Done it several times without problem.

Distance Selling Regulations are a UK law and do not apply to play.com. Same goes for the Sale of Goods Act. It would be the same case if you bought from the USA or China.

Play.com are situated in Jersey, and Jersey isn't even in the EU never mind the UK.

I have had a refund from play.com before when something I ordered never turned up. They asked no questions and the money was back in my account within days of the complaint!

They should be just as good with returns, but I have never had to return anything sorry...
