Best 50" Plasma for under 1000quid ?

Hi folks,
I am currently trying to decide on a model to go for in terms of a nice big shiny new HD telly. I am currently favouring the new Panasonic TH50-PX80 (to be released soon?) which will be around 900 quid (best price). I have picked this one so far as the older panasonic models have come out well in a Which survey last year (PX70 models).
Just wondering whether are there any other models available I should consider??? Just want the best 50" telly for around 800-1000quid. I would like full HD but seems that it is an expensive luxury and is not always better as there are other factors that generate a "good picture". I think I will be happy enough with 720p with my poor eyesight I may not notice 1080p quality, For me a nice big screen and good upscaling for SD content will be my primary use. Though I expect in a few years time I will be watching more HD content compared to SD.
Tips appreciated.....

Have a look here http://www.soundandvisiononline.com/listview/index.asp?§ion=TV&sizeid=50
a handful of 50" whilst some of them are out of your price range there are a few that are not. You can also get John Lewis to price match with this company and then go buy it from John Lewis and you get a 5 year guarantee.
Just out of curiosity how big is your house? we have just bought a sony KDL40v300 pricematched by john Lewis (to the sound and vision price) and that is obviously 40" screen but it is huge!!! 50 is even huger! lol
If you need any more help or questions with the price match just pm me

I am planning for a large as possible screen as most people seem to say they get used to the bigger screens.
I certainly have the John Lewis price match idea in mind as the 5 year guarantee is certainly worth going for as I have had a plethora of electrical equipment failures this year!!! --- 2 PCs, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer and headphone amp!!!! Must be something wrong with my electricity cupply. I do not live near a John Lewis so hence a little planning first so I can just make 1 trip to John Lewis to sort this out in a month or two.
Due to my poor eyesight I am aiming for as large as possible as long as it will sensibly fit into my new home (next month). If it is too large I will simply shift down in size in my final chosen model range.Grocery Challenge 2008

Yeah got one nearby for price match purposes with John Lewis!!
Picture has got more complex!!! Just found out that Panasonic are NOT releasing a 50" PX80 model!!! Only a PX8 one which is just the old PX70 with a slightly newer panel in the same case.
Price for 50PX8 model is around 1100 quid
Price for PX70 around 800 quid - if you can find srock
Price for 50PZ80 .... very very dear 1500quid plus
Dunno what to do now I was hoping to buy a new 50PX80 model with 3HDMI , higher contrast and VReal 3 engine.
Very confused ...... JoolsGrocery Challenge 2008

sorry I can't help push you in the rigbht direction of a new tv but I can give you a link to a forum where they know what they are talking about. I registered on here and got help with the whole price matching with John Lewis ...
Link is here - https://www.avforums.com
hope it may help you further.
Oh and just one other thing ... John Lewis also deliver so that may help you rather than picking it up.
and something else to think about they have a warehouse (main warehouse) in northampton where all the TV's are kept ... then when one is ordered it is transferred to branch or warehouse locally to where you are collecting from if that makes sense. We ordered ours through john lewis in newcastle, but with it being failry big we opted to pick it up from the main warehouse in Killingworth rather than trying to walk through the town with a huge tv.Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
Read up about the non-release of the 50px80 on avforums website, seems a very good resource. I think I may make the effort and join i!!!
Thanks for all your replies so far.
