New mobile advice

I am looking at new mobile phones as my contract is up and I cannot stand my current phone. I have been doing extensive research on the internet and have found some good deals but it's just a question of which phone to choose. Do I go for a phone I really love which over 6 months would cost £239.95 and possibly an unlocking fee (that is including cashback and redeeming monthly charge) or the phone that was before the one I love not as good spec. but would be £99.95 and possibly an unlocking fee (that is including cashback and redeeming monthly charge) over 6 months or a phone I don't mind, but is not great yet tolerable, which over 12 months after redemption would cost £23.88 (and possibly £50 cashback). I know it really is a no brainer and I should go with the cheaper option as it would save me so much and it would only be for 12 months but I prefer the other phones. Now as you can see this is where I got in trouble in the 1st place by wanting something as it was pretty and not giving any though to the money I would be paying.

think about what you use the phone for the most and do you really need all the lovely gizmo gadget things??
Personally, I'd just go for the cheapest nokia etc available - a £20 jobby from Tesco or Game etc and go to PAYG if you're out of contract and can 'escape'.
The phone that costs £239 over 6 months is going to be old hat in 6 months - it isn't worth the cost for something which makes calls.........;)
(can you tell I'm one of those who mostly use their mobile as a torch in the dark in the bedroom!!!! :rotfl:)"Stay Wonky":D

I do actually use my phone a lot and I think I would be topping up a payg every week. So I figured the cheap phone which is 200 mins and 200 texts per month is the best option. The monthly charge would be £30 but after redemption it works out at £1.99 per month. It just depends if I can "cope" with that phone.LBM 14/12/06 £21,947.17 DEBT FREE 12/04/09

The one which would effectively cost me £1.99 a month is the Nokia 6300. It is a nice phone and to be honest would do me just fine as I have the Prada phone at the moment and do not use it to its full advantage. All I need is to be able to call and text and occasionally take pictures which this phone has. I just prefer the look of the Sony Ericsson W890i (or the W880i which preceeded the one "I love"LBM 14/12/06 £21,947.17 DEBT FREE 12/04/09

I would definitely go for the cheapest option available if you just make calls and send texts.

You've answered your own question. It _is_ a no brainer. The cheaper one will be fine.
Anything else would be a luxury. Can you afford luxuries at the moment?0 -

I do agree totally but I really am materialisticand I [strike]might[/strike] probably will not be happy with the phone. I just need to think about the money though and paying off my debts sooner.
I will be good :money:JimmyTheWig wrote: »You've answered your own question. It _is_ a no brainer. The cheaper one will be fine.

Hi Saver,
If you are out of contract why not phone up and ask to speak to customer retentions. There are a number of articles on how to approach this.
You may be able to get the phone you want and a massively discounted tariff... I got them to knock by monthly bills down from £35 to £5 by taking this approach.

Does your old Prada phone still work? Could you not just get the cheapest possible phone for the tarrif you want and carry on using the phone which you *loved* previously? Please don't think I'm being patronising - I've just never felt phone love before!Debt at LBM (20th March 2008) £13,607

Have you tried someone like T-Mobile, who do their flex contracts? mine works out at £20 a month and I have a Nokia 6500 Slide. I get £60 worth of text and calls a month (which costs £25 I have a special 'deal'
Customer services aren't great, but if you can get what you want and cheap it might be worth a look.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0
