Time rich V money poor?

If you had the choice to be able to work part time would you? The reason I ask is that I'm considering taking a part time job will will practically half my working week. If I were to do this it would mean obviously having less money. It would be manageable but things would be a bit tight. The essentials would be paid but there would be less money for luxuries. I have a small mortgage and no debt, and I sometimes get tired of working just so that I can buy 'things'.

For me the idea of having the time to do the things I want in life really appeals, and I've never been a material person. I like the idea of simplifying life and getting back to basics and I don't think you need a lot of money to enjoy these things.

I think as a society were are made to believe that we should work full time and spend all the money we earn on stuff to make us feel happy. However if working less meant you were time-rich with less money, would you do it?

I would be interested to hear what others would do....

As long as you've got enough money to pay for all the basic essentials and a bit left over for a rainy day then go for it.
  • We DO do it:j Hubby and I work the equivalent of one job between us. This is the pace that life should be lived. And remember, when you have time you can budget, cook, garden, make things for people instead of buying them...

    I definitely recommend it.

    Good luck

There are ways to get extra money (and no I don't mean anything dodgy) but there are only 24 hours in a day.

I would go for the time over the money every time.

    (And indeed have)

Working for someone else? Absolutely. I must admit though I'd probably spend my time doing things others could think of as 'work' but if its for myself then its not the same thing :D

Time over money wins every time with me.
I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.

The day I can live on a part time wage I'll go for it. I love my job, but I love being at home and free to do things even more.

I have no doubt that most of my free time would be spent making money on the web and saving money. But I love doing that so I would be doing what I want, when I want.

I was part time in my old job and loved it!! Not only did I have time to do all the things I wanted but my relationship improved (was working stupid shift pattern before I went P/T) and I wasn't so involved with work politics! I have a new job with 9 - 5ish hours so have gone back full time.. but maybe soon..! Go for it!
