Quick rundown state of affaires
- September 05 - Husband left marital home due to alcohol dependency and severe depression to move back to Northumberland. He left a dependent son and me with no income.
- I have searched for jobs, was granted council tax benefit and I also received tax credit for our son.
- I was also in terrible debt due to all major utilities being left unpaid by my husband.
- April 06 - Husband died suddenly due to liver damage; this news devastated my son and I. I had to pay for his funeral and get his belongings back from Northumberland to Berkshire
- My family have suffered tremendous stress with this situation, myself with severe depression, my son with depression and alopecia. You are quiet welcome to contact our family Doctor for proof.
- My husband’s estate was still intestate.
- October 07 - Solicitor explained that there was no money in my husband estate except.
- November 07 - I went to CAB to get advice on my financial situation.
- December 07 - My CAB advisor phoned all my debtors regarding the debt and it was agreed that you would all wait for my Financial Statement
- Since 07 I have suffered with crippling bouts of gallstones. My gall balder operation was carried out in February 08 from which I am now fully recovered (Proof can be provided)

I am not an expert but... as you own your house outright would you consider selling it to move into a smaller and cheaper one to pay your debts off?
Would it be possible?LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Just to clarify
There was no money from your OH estate.
Were there debts? Ie only owed by him? If so I believe that these die with him
Are the debts you are worried about just therefore yours?
Are you still on benefits? Would you be getting a pension this year, or you looking to return to work?
I am guessing you can't get a mortgage a) because you are signed off sick or b) because you have no means to pay it off.
I would suggest that you talk to either CCCS or Payplan who are both free advice organisations. Their numbers are at the top of the forum. They would probably suggest that you write to your creditors offering token payments of £1 along with an income and expenditure sheet, so they can see that you have no money.
But best to get some free advice before making a decision.
Sorry you are in such a touch place at the moment. It will get better

hello and firstly a big welldone for taking a step forward and posting here.
Ssounds asthough you have been through the mill and you'll find lots of support and help here.
Pop and make a cup of tea and then let us know, one by one, a list of your income, outgoings and debts. would you be willing to consider the possibility of selling your home and buying a smaller property to free up the money? or is it oo soon after the death of your husband to consider this.
I really look forward to talking soon and helping you to feel better...xxxdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -

:hello:
I would say:
Contact CCCS (different from CAB). They deal solely in debt advice etc.
Their contact is at the top of this forum.
They will be able to advise you.
Hope this helps.

Hello - I am sorry to hear of the hard time you have had. Welcome to the site an well done on talking control of your situation. I would suggest as someone else has that you contact either CCCS http://www.cccs.co.uk/ or national debt line http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/ they will give you the best advice for your situationDon't get strung out by the way I look,
Don't judge a book by it's cover0 -
ok, we reeeeally need figures here hon, don't be embarrassed or ashamed we have all been where you are now.
just to start with, how much do you have coming in each month and how much going out on different bills?
Lay it out as
Income=
outgoings
Mortgage
Gas bill
Electric bill
water
and so on. We'll tackle the debts shortly. but may be able to find solutions to cutting down that you as yet may not realise or see. Have you spoken to the consumer credit counselling service? their number is at the top of the page in the "resource bar" under "non-profit debt counsellors list"
I'm guessing RBS is your main creditor. do you still hold your bank account with a company that you owe money to? if so move it as soon as to a company that you owe no money to.
speak soon xxdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0
