Cash & Banks

I have today wondered if I slipped into a totally cashless society!

I have a jar of loose change and thought it'd be better collecting interest than dust!

The bank gave me a stock of money bags to count it up, and I reckon there's at least £25 there.

Only to be told there's a £5 limit on loose change a day.... !!!!!!?

Sorry, banks, money, I thought that is what a bank was there for?

Greg Proops was right in his stand up act, this is not a service orientated island is it?

I suspect you didn't go into a bank. You went into a Building Society that may (or may not) like to call itself a bank. They only offer a limited range of banking services. Coin handling is not one of them.

Which 'bank' did you go into?

When I was working for Natwest there was no limit at all, the only thing we asked was that it was all bagged up.

Do you mean a limit of 5 bags or £5? Abbey National only let you have no more than 5 bags going into your account in one day. If it's only £5 then what would happen if you had a bag of 50p's, 20p's (£10) or £1 or £2 coins (£20). Banks make up the rules as they go along imho!

The biggest shock to me in this thread is someone quoting Greg Proops.

If I were you Belnahua I would keep all of your change and throw it at Greg next time he does stand-up at the village hall (alternatively, you could just throw some slate).

Hope you get to cash in your coins okay. Previously I've used the CoinStar machine in our local Asda, however it takes a reasonably large handling fee for its trouble. It does save me counting it though...
