I agree homer, but the partners of the business tried them to see if we could increase biz a little. The people they saw were after rates and using us as a soursing machine.

To be honest the clients that give your name out and come back to you year after year are those who needed advice rather than a rate jockey!

So far, I've never paid for leads (touch wood)...I saw Mercantile Equity's ad in the Mail though & it looked tempting. Glad I didn't bite.

    That's interesting.

I'm on NR SVR (fixed rate ran out in January) and wanted to move to First Direct, my own bank. I appplied a few months ago and was told I was over committed, which I was, fair enough (I'm self employed and was not back working full-time after a bereavment) .

Since then I have reduced my monthly outgoings by just short of £900 and my debts are £4K lower.

I'm now back to full earning potential after caring for mum who sadly passed away in September but of course they look at the past three years income, as opposed to what I am earning now. I thought my own bank would be more likely to take into account my current earnings as they can see it going into my bank account each week but not the case as "income based lenders"

My LTV is 62% and I have never defaulted on any payments.

The FD deal would have saved me a further £80 a month but its not to be.

Looking around yesterday after being rejected (boo sob) it appeared to me that the NR SVR looks about the best option for me at the moment. I did think I was missing something but maybe not if brokers cant find better overall deals.

    Ho hum.

I'm sorry you guys are having a hard time, especially as I know I have appreciated your input on MSE over the years. Good Luck - hope the "credit crisis" isn't too protracted:money:

I've also appreciated the knowledge that has gone back and forth between you all.

Minimike if its mercurial equity or what ever they are called, get out! We spent 1k on a batch and every one was a rate chaser who had already lined up a direct deal. I have had poor feedback from them since.

ALthough before this run they seem to have been very good.

    Times are tough!

No, been there done that with Mercantile.....they are pants!

Its Mortgage Matters - but they have just been taken over by a new company, so dont know what they will be like going forward.

The leads are pretty decent - there are some rubbish ones, but you always get a refund on anything that cant deal - only time its not refundable is if it can deal, they just decide they dont want to. Overall they have been pretty worth wile.
