GMAC second mortgage trouuble

Hi,
Thanks to this forum we found a great mortgage deal, BUT, years ago we had a secured loan with Future Mortages as well as our GMAC mortgage. We got a further advance from GMAC, they paid the FM loan off and incorporated it into the GMAC mortgage.
Now I'm being told by my solicitor that GMAC have told him there is a second mortgage out on the property with FM and he needs to get in touch with them.
How can this be if it was redeemed. I have no proof, I can find, that GMAC paid the FM loan, though I gave them the redemtion statement, it was a condition of the further advance, the payments stopped and my mortage got bigger to the value of it.
GMAC have been a nightmare, sent them three letters, one vague reply.

It's not GMAC's fault if Future Mortgages failed to remove the charge from your property, it's Future Mortgages' fault. I'd be contacting them, not GMAC.
As you say it's pretty obvious that you have had the FM loan paid off or they'd have been chasing you for payments. It seems to me that THEY (not GMAC) have cocked up.0 -
Cheers for that. Failure to understand how it all works. I'll get on to them tomorrow.0
