Which is the best home 'french manicure' sets

I'm not really a fan of false nails/stick on manicure stuff - as i don't usually use w.up gloves!
i know that getting a professional french manicure is probably more lasting and worth it but prob. too expensive for me (not researched on price) - and given that i'm a mum - probably won't last long.
so personal pref. would be doing it at home. i don;t reallly need the stickers anymore.
I;ve tried the elegant touch kits (with boots points!) which had all three steps - it was ok but i ran out of the base & top coat before the white coat - which went gloopy quite quickly.
also used No7 - white tip - which is actually a creamy colour - bit weird!
so far these two brands - make the nail tips go yellowy after 2-3 days.

Are there any better brands which will not turn yellowy after a few days. and is it really possible to get a good/'professional' look with the home kits.
Does anyone out there use the home kits as an alternative?
any tips or ideas please!

fantasttic thread, finding a decent white is a nightmare, have a couple of decent colours but the varish has little cracks in it after a few days or gets really gloopy (ps gloopy nail varnishes put a drop of nail varnish remover to thin it again works majority of times)

i love the sally hansen stuff.

the main thing is to have a good top coat! the sally hansen diamond strength is great, and it doubles as a base coat so the polish goes on really smoothly. i reapply my top coat every evening whilst i watch tv, and my polish lasts ages (even with cleaning, washing up etc)

the white i like is actually by ms manicure - in boots they do a double ended ms manicure set with the peach/pink on one end and white in the other. the brush is really good on it. it's about £6 i think.

Can't help with the white (although I might give ms manicure a try) but I can recommend the polishes by Barbara Daly in the Tesco range. There's a clear one called something like Goodbye Yellow which is great for an undercoat and whitens your nails and a very very pale translucent pink (high gloss). I've tried other French manicure sets before but I liked the gloss on these so much I bought them for friends too.

might nip down to tesco now and get some of that high gloss translucent pink - sounds lovely!!

i would recommend avon,,,,the best set by far!

We love the Bourjois set - about £6 when not on a special offer. The pink is a lovely colour and the white good, although not everyone will like the shaped brush that comes with it.

i use the goodbye yellow stuff from tesco too - great stuff makes my nails look very clean!

i can't seem to find the barbara daly one - does it still exist? i've only noticed the 'cheap' makeup range the 3 for £5 stuff and accessories.
not seen avon around solihull, as no distributors around my area.
i think i'll have to try the bourjois - i sooooo love their stuff !
haven't seen Ms Manicure before - is it just one product they do or a range?
