I've never heard of an "inland revenue tax notification", so don't know what one is, if indeed such a thing exists.

What exactly is it that you want to know? Are you reffering to your code or what?
  • I have been asked to prove who I am and one of the documents is Inland Revenue Tax Notification. A search online shows many building soc ask for this but do not want P60 or P45

This will be the green form entitled "PAYE Coding Notice" that Inland Revenue sends out to everybody (I think) who pays tax through PAYE. It tells you what your tax code is for the year. It is not of much interest to most people; it's important for their employer, but they get to hear about it through some other channel anyway.

I usually get mine soon after the tax year begins. The date may be related to when I file my tax return, mind you.

Alternatively, it might mean a statement of your "tax account" with the Inland Revenue. I think you only get these if you fill in tax returns.
  • Ahh, it becomes clearer. I have not received PAYE coding notice but I know other people have who do not complete tax returns have received this documentation. So I will ring the tax office on Monday and request a coding notice, this should be what they require.

Thank you for your assistance :D

  • It is as other posters have indicated. I spoke to someone at a tax office and they tell me it normally takes 7-10 working days for a letter to be sent out.
