I have major credit problems from 6 years ago

I have never owned a home.  Due to back to back serious illness in my family i became overloaded and couldnt pay my bills.  Things are stable for the last 6 years now.  I have payed cash for everything to avoid the shame of the way it looked on paper.  my income is very good. I want to buy a home for my family.  My credit is thin because of time and whats left looks bad.  Is there any hope for me getting a loan.  No BK only collections and judgements.  I have no loans open currently and the amount i need to borrow is less than half my yearly income.  Please give me an idea if there are any.
