Bank Infelxibility

I have been trying to persuade my bank to close my current account and stop charging me interest in order that I have a chance to clear the overdraft, most of which (just under £4000), comes from the charges they've made over the years for bouncing payments. Has anybody here successfully done this and what approach did you make. I'm not trying to dodge paying the outstanding amount, just any further charges. I don't use the account any more but they still keep sticking interest on all the time. This is currebtly about £1 a day. Apparently are going to keep refusing to close the account until it's paid up. I have considered writing to them and telling them I refuse to pay any more interest and will knock any future charges off the final figure and let them chase me for it, but I want to at least exhaust all less confrontational possibilities first. Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers

Andy

i would just write to them and explain the situation pointing out how much of the total is actually down to their bank charges and maybe putting the ball in their court as to what they can do to help you get back on an even keel. If you request help they have to do something to try and support you in one way due to the responsible banking things... the only thing i would say is make sure you write soon as the banks arent that fast in setting this sort of thing up as a general rule. My bank was approached when i went with the CCCS and they have now finally frozen all interest payments and are allowing me to pay back what is owed but they took enough time to set it up to make sure that they got at least another couple of months charges out of me..very sneeky!!
:EasterBun ...what more do I need to say?!
its all in the name of medical science.
