Am I alone??

It’s not long ago since I used to hide from any bill whatsoever. I’d have ostridge moments when Id just put my head in the sand and not open anything for a week or a month letting them pile up. When id finally get round to them I’d cry get really low and then use one card to pay the other and think it would all be okay.
Now (okay this sounds quite sad) but I actually get excited when the post is here I'm actually happy when bills come through the door, I rip them open and quickly log into my spreadsheet so that I can fill in the boxes and see how much my debt is going down. I'm obsessed...am I alone?
In Jan 2007 I had a debt of £27,896.00
In October 2011 I paid it off and owned £0.00 - Kinda proud of this!:T

    good for you.

it's part of the taking control....I wouldn't say it's excitement...just the positive feeling of trying to do the right thing and seizing and maintaining the initiative...

Or you could view it as an adreneheline (typo!) reaction - fight or flight thing...either way, it's positive...and contagious too!

    Hi Angel,

No you are not alone, when we were ignoring our debt we would ignore letters from banks, normally advising of charges. We had loads hidden away ignoring the problem. Now the mail gets opened everyday and the balances get recorded, our overpayments noted on the snowball calculator and it all feels really positive. Facing up to our debts was the best thing we ever did.

    Congrats on taking the journey!

Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:

No not alone I was thrilled at shutting down an account that was costing about £6 a year to run, telling DH excitedly I'd saved 50p a month.

Definitely not alone. I get excited when the bills come in too. I look forward to the end of the month to add up all my totals and see how I'm doing. Some months the debt doesn't come down much but the main thing is that it's coming down and not up anymore:j

I used to be like that, had quite a collection of unopened bills at one point.
I'm still paranoid every time the phone goes or the postman comes but I'm up to date with everyone now - determined to be debt free by the end of the year.
