These are NOT NEW and only has a 3 month warranty. It sounds like a good deal but these are facts you may wish to know.
Hope this helps someone!

you can extend the warranty to a year for £10 if you scroll down the page. Bought one to archive stuff of our Humax and store some extra stuff. All worked fine and I'd be hard pushed to work out if it had been used before, all sealed up no fingerprints anywhere, remote batteries sealed. Interface and remote takes a bit getting used to but for the price I'll live with that0

A few forums on the equipment. One states that it is £169.99 in Argos, but I am at work and can't clarify that at the moment.John

Can anyone tell me if it's best to buy one of these and add a VCR separately or would a combi be better and add a Freeview box, such as this one which has pretty good reviews on Amazon but I don't think has Freeview.

I think getting the Wharfedale and adding a VCR would give you far more options. For starters the freeview program guide would be able to be used to schedule your recordings and over several channels. Using an external freeview box wil mean you have to have it turned to the channel you are recording. The 160GB HDD will also change how you watch TV - it has done for me. Finally the DVD writer can back up anything you want to keep from the HDD or an external source. Pretty much means the VCR would only be used for viewing pre-recorded tapes or transfering them to DVD as all the recording capability you need is in the Wharfedale box!

I think this is an ideal bedroom freeview box, w/HDD + DVD. Clunky menu systems on this vestel-based (Turkish/supermarket) box remove it from anything I would consider to be in the 'main' room but HDMI upsacaling gives hope to all those peeps that bought a ('samsung') LCD TV that doesn't work so good with SD sources...
