help me bil payment

ok ive got a question ave googled it but cant find an answer

how old does a bill have to be before you dont have to pay it, or is this crap

i seem ti remeber hearing once , if you get a bill in more than 3 yeaers old you dont lagally have to pay it as the billers took to long to send it??? please give me advice?

  • The debt becomes 'statute barred' after 6 years, as long as you've not had any contact with the company in that time.
    Not 100% sure, but even a letter from them can mean theres been contact, but it is def 6 years not 3.

    Edit: council tax debts and mortgage arrears can not be Statute barred.

    what it is like this

    had business , they were the account adn did all the books, however they never sent ina yearly accounting bill (had busines since 2003) and know after the business has ended they hav sent us a huge bill for all that time.... what worse they havnt even put teh bill in the books at all as expenses, if you know what i mean?? they have said , we know we r wrong and should have sent you a bill evry year bla bla...just know where we stand as the bill is huge, and we asked them to state where the bill has come form , like how many hours was wirked on it the business book etc, they say they cant as it such long ago, but they just came up with a fiqure they cnat prove

    The bill should be paid by the business as a business expense, unless you agreed to pay it personally.

    yes thats what we thought, but the account dealing with all the books (ie. sorting out expenses, profits and how much tax we shud pay) hav at the end of 4 years later have stuck us with a 5K bill, but havnt eve included it like a certain amount each year as an expense, and they cant prove where they ahve got htis fiqure form , see what i mean, we are totally being had!
