Transferring Mortgage from Abby to Egg?

My better half is currently weighing up the options that are available to us, as our fixed rate is about to end.
We’re strongly considering using Eggs Offset Mortgage however I thought it a little strange when she called them up they said that she would need to arrange a solicitor herself to deal with the transfer? Is this standard procedure as we’ve never had to do this in the past?
