  • we still get one occasionally on his horse and cart - you only know he is approaching because he yells 'MAAAAG MOOOAAAAEEE' or something as he comes up the street - I believe it is supposed to be 'rag and bone' but it really is very hard to tell!!

I saw a rag and bone man with a horse the other week. Last saw one 30 years ago. If I've had scrap metal I've put in in my driveway and within a few days, I usually get a scrap man driving a van asking if they can take it.

We have one that comes round regularly but he just takes metal etc. do any of them still take clothes? When I was young kids would get a balloon and women got pegs off the rag & bone man when you gave him something!

I have vague recollections of getting a goldfish off the one who used to come round our way.

We used to get bars of 'household soap' (Green Fairy or Yellow Sunlight) or blocks of 'donkey stone' (for the steps) off ours (50's).

A sign of the times - the rag and bone man is in the "ten-foot" behind my office, now in a white van :D :rotfl:
