Its a 3000 series which is only PCI graphics dont expect to play many games only basic ones as your upgrade path is very very limited with only being PCI.

Also its very expensive for what you are getting there are far better deals about on the Dell site , but stay away from the 3000 series whatever you do, the 5100 and higher are the ones to go for

The 5100 series is miles better, but also much more expensive. My son has a 3000 Celeron and I have just bought a 5100 P4 and the two are miles apart.
However, stick a PCI 5200 graphics card in the Dimension 3000 for about £35 and you get a pretty good machine for web surfing, word, excel etc. and able to play most modern games at REASONABLE settings - i.e. No. 1 Son can play Counter-Strike Source on his machine as long as he doesn't put AA or AF settings up.
    Also no soundcard
The Dimensions come with on-board sound which is fine for most people - just buy a decent set of speakers for £15-£20 and you'll be fine.
BUT - I reckon £361.90 is a bit high for this spec, especially if you need to spend another £50 on extras. Personally I'd keep an eye out for Dell misprices and see if you can get one of those (I got the Dimension 3000 for £186 with a CRT and the 5100 for £407 with a TFT monitor) - check out the forums on 22nd September, which is the date they usually bring out their latest monthly offerings.

  • i am not arguing but you are not going to get the same thing anywhere else for that price...

unless someone can prove that i am wrong!
  • Found, a similar better spec offer, but it does exclude VAT and delivery :(. I'd avoid the Celeron processors if at all possible, the Pentium 4 is much more powerful, the speed of the processor isn't as crucial as the technology, a slower P4 is much more capable than a faster Celeron.

    It's a Dell Dimension 3000
    Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
Windows XP Home (upgrade to Pro if you can afford it)
    512Mb RAM
    160 GB HD
    17" Flat Panel
    Network card
Audio and Graphics built in (basic, but fine for general use and easy to upgrade)
48 speed CDRW and DVD reader

that is £379 but excluding delivery and VAT :(

    Evalue code: MMMUK4-D09302B

If you subscribe to Dell's offer emails you'll get more. The trick is with Dell to stick to the offer spec, because as soon as you start to change components the price goes out of control.
