I can't crochet either so I borrowed 'Crochet Patterns for Dummies' from the library. I must be totally dumb - I can't understand a single word:rotfl: . I can knit though so if you can knit as well I'm guessing you could just knit a couple of panels then sew together, for the handle either knit a couple of strips or plait some strips together. Also my Nan used to line them with lining fabric.

  • Here you go

Cut the handles off the carrier bags and then simply cut strips approx 2cm wide in a spiral all the way down, (like peeling an orange). Knot the lengths together, and wind into balls. Use 6.5 mm needles cast on 44 stitches, knit in garter stitch until knitting measures 38cm. Make two.

Gusset is 20 stitches 106.5 cm long. Stitch it up to make a bag.

For the handles I plait some of the 'yarn' together with string to give it extra strength and loop it through the bag, forming a tote bag kind of thing.

I hope you get the idea, my camera isn't working or I'd post a pic.

Obviously you can make them larger or smaller depending on your needs but at least this is a start.

    Hope this helps
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

Last I heard about unrecycled plastic it was selling for £30 per ton cleaned and baled. China was buying it for £60 per ton in any condition and hand separated. This was a no brainer for money making plastic recyclers and as far I know the only thing that has probably changed is the price of plastic. This was about 12 to 18 months ago.

If so called recyclable plastics work the supermarkets should take them back and lead by example.
