Chased for already paid off Debt

Hello! Not been in here for a while :o

Got a letter this weekend from Arrow Global saying they'd bought my debt from 2003 off Orange and want me to pay it back etc etc

BUT

I've already repaid this with Moorcroft around 2 years ago. I can't find any letter from Moorcroft proving this as I've moved and must have foolishly thrown it away thinking it was done with

The letter from Arrow had a letter from Orange in it saying they'd assigned all rights to Arrow

Now, I'm 100% positive that I've paid this already. I understand that asking for a signed copy of the agreement etc isn't enforcable for mobile phone agreements (I may be wrong here)

Anyone got any advice what to do? Should I call Arrow, Orange or Moorcroft? Or all 3?

I think if you got access to your credit file it should show on that that you've paid it???
Money doesn't make you happy so I'm skint but cheerful

Changing the subject only slightly, I'm going to be in a position to make a couple of "full & final payments" soon (to Moorcroft & CapQuest) and want to know if they will confirm in writing that I have in fact paid the full balance?

Obviously I don't want them, or any other DCA, chasing me again in the future for the same debt.

Can anyone share any experiences they have had when paying off a debt to Moorcroft or CapQuest?

    Many thanks.

    D.

    Hello Lodge

You could try sending them this letter: (btw, if you have any queries, you're better off starting a new thread, to save confusion with this one ;) )
    Your Address
    Date
    Creditor / DCA
    Address
    Dear Sir/Madam
    Re a/c: XXXXXXXXX
We write with reference to the money which you are claiming on the above account.
We can confirm that we are unable to offer to pay the money which we owe in full.
However, I can raise £XXXX and I want to offer this as an ex−gratia payment in full and final settlement of the account.
This offer is made on the clear understanding that, if accepted, neither you nor any associate company will take any other action to enforce or pursue this debt in any way whatsoever and that we will be released for any liability.
We also request that, if accepted, you will make an entry on a credit reference agency file relating to the above account as "satisfied" in full.
Payment can be made within 2 weeks of receiving your written agreement of this offer and method of payment.
We look forward to receiving your reply.
    Yours faithfully

Initially I had a payment book, but then I paid by standing order til it finished

Edit: I've just found my moorcroft reference number on a bank statement, so maybe the best thing to do would be to call them tomorrow?

It's Bank Holiday tomorrow, call Tuesday, also as it was a Standing Order, try your bank for statements.

  • Hi, i read your post with interest!

in 2004 i owed Powergen £142.00. I paid it off through WESCOT in installments which ended in 2006.

I get a red demand out of the blue from CRAPQUEST chasing me for the money again! I got intouch with WESCOT and they have send me a receipt. I have given Crapquest references and dates and WESCOT say that that is all they should need to know.

CRAPQUEST wrote to me saying that they have requested a statement of account that will be sent directly to me from Powergen.

Spoke to powergen, they refuse to confirm to me that Crapquest is their debt agency and powergen told me that my account has been inactive since 2006.

I am reluctant to send Crapquest any personal information because Powergen wont give ME any info, any debt agency can send a letter demanding payment, it all sound fishy to me.

I sent crapquest a letter telling them i had still not received the statement from powergen, and they replied with a standard letter telling me that they can confirm that powergen are their clients, and pay up or else!

    What should i do next?
