Northern Rock increased my mortgage balance!

Hi, new to this so sorry if it has been covered before. I have just accessed my Northern Rock mortgage account and found that they have increased my mortgage balance by over £400.
My fixed rate deal with them ends on july 1st, and I am due to go onto the standard variable rate of 7.49%! I have made no enquiries to them regarding any new deals nor have they offered me any. I cannot understand why I have incurred a charge (if this is what it is) for just continuing with my mortgage deal at the highest rate of interest. I have recieved no correspondance from them regarding this amount and am at a loss to understand what it is for.
Can anybody advise?

Thanks Andy

Are you sure that it is not a product fee from when you first took out the mortgage?

If not, does the amount have a description by it?
    Gone ... or have I?

No, the amount has no description to what it may be. My interest only part (i have an endowment) went up just over £200 and my repayment likewise.

I had only recently received a letter from northern rock regarding what our new payment was going to be £874, then it went down to £866 after there pathetic interest cut and now after the £400 addition it has risen to £869 I have received nothing regarding charges or fees, I have never missed a payment or applied to borrow more money, I am at a loss.

Errm. Write and ask them to explain. All you will get here is opinions. If NR answer, you will get their opinion, which you might or might not accept.
