There's a useful free guide to skip hire called "The 7 Secrets to Successful Skip Hire" which explains how to spot the good guys, how to make sure your waste is recycled and not fly-tipped and why skips are so expensive. It's at http://www.topskips.com/home/about.php
Also, they had a promotion running in N London branches of Wickes where you get a £10 off skip hire voucher when you spend £30 in store. If you book a skip online with this code: 421-6739405 it will deduct £10 from the total cost of your skip. I've used this code twice now and got great service (dropped off and picked up on time, no hassles from the lorry driver, no demands for cash)
