I've got that sinking feeling about this latest housing slump

Interesting Merlin. Obviously looking at completely different stuff to you but we have seen some absolutely dreadful tart-up jobs, the funniest being the one with a brand new and very expensive kitchen but needing a new roof. And the kitchen was horrid anyway.

I have watched a good few of the property !!!!!! programs but they haven't even followed Sarah Beeney's advice. If the doors aren't hung properly I'm not even going to bother paying for a survey to be told you've done everything else on the cheap too. No matter how poncey the toilet.

He's not an idiot. He was a Kings Scholar at Eton and a Brackenbury Scholar at Balliol, Oxford.

He's also done something I thought we'd never see - as a Tory he's become mayor of London. There are 47 Labour MPs in London and 19 Tory ones which I reckon is about normal.

PS Very good piece in the Torygraph. I find him a good writer.

I'd vote for Boris in a heartbeat. I am always pro someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously and is anti-PC. I don't think that we will be seeing any more mad mullahs at city hall.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

    Exactly.

This was one of the worst combinations we had seen. Really expensive fittings, and I mean expensive, way more than we would ever pay, but an overall feeling of general lack of care in the build itself.

Like hanging a Van Gogh in a barn.

Shame...must have been one of those Sarah Beeney followers doing a do up (but badly).

Why not go to the auction? Bit of research......I'm still convinced that's where you will get your place.
How many other 'done ups' are in the area costing the owner money?
At some point they have to sell.

    Wishing you well.

We thought about going, but for some strange reason the auction is in Plymouth which is almost 3 hours away for us and a difficult journey as well.

We wouldn't buy that place under any circumstances though.

Where auctions are for property is a real hit and miss.
A lot of people who were repossessed in Plymouth had their houses auctioned in London, then quickly found again on the Plymouth auction circuit where they resold higher.

It's all down to who did the repossessing, which staff member gets allocated the property and where they normally stick all their properties. They would just go: "Oh, Crediton, Devon, who is on the list for Devon, oh Plymouth, OK send it on to there; right, next... wish it was lunchtime already"

We were looking at a new build property called "West Mount" in Tadcaster.

Detached four beds, two bathrooms chalet bungalow for £400,000!

Wondered why it was an octagon shape and no mention of a garage.

As the house had been built at the back of someones large garden it took us ages to find it........ Finally had to drive up a back street!

No garage as there was not room for one and the "garden" seemed to be about a foot all round the house with a lovely view of the neighbours back yards and rubbish bins.

Not sure how small a car you would need to drive on to the "drive" or to turn in the very narrow back street!

I can't do links or I would have posted it.

How very odd - a bungalow with an upstairs!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Well done Merlin with the link!

    I am very impressed.

Sad thing is that there was obviously not the room for a four bed conventional house so the people must have tried to get the highest price by squeezing four bedrooms into the space.

It could have made a nicer two bed house or bungalow with a garage and small garden.

Anyone willing to spend £400,000 on a four bed house round here would expect a garage and a garden.

Not a panaramic view of a back street and a load of bins!
