How long to wait?

Hi,

I won a bid on a collect only basis last night. I mailed the seller about payment and collecting the item and heard nothing. I checked for messages again this morning and at the time of writing still have heard nothing. I want to go and collect the item (furniture) today as I have someone who can lend me their trailer.

Why wouldn't the seller respond? Wouldn't they be monitoring their sales at the time to see what it sold for? It looks like a private seller not a business and they have good previous feedback.

what should I do?

not everyone is tied to there computer

Did you contact the seller in advance and ask if you could collect today if you had the winning bid??

Never assume that people will be available when you are

There is no requirement for sellers to be available immediately for collection unless this is arranged prior to auction end.

Just wait until seller contacts you, if you really are desperate you could try phoning the seller but it may irritate him if he is having a weekend off.

    Thank you everyone,

I wouldn't have his/her phone number or know how to get it anyway. If they want to sell it they would have replied - if they are there. what's odd is that they have other items ending today and why would they list stuff knowing they woudn't be there?

I'll hang on a bit longer. I know I'm impatient but if you've already waited days for the auction to end and you really want/need the item. I could/should have gone to a store and had one by now! It's a bit disappointing not hearing diddly squat mind you. I'll remember in future to check with sellers that they will be around when the bid ends.

got to admit think you are being very impatient here, auction ended friday night and you are upset not to have heard anything by saturday lunchtime?, geez I've been out for drinks on a friday before and not been in a fit state to check emails all day saturday! or stayed at a friends or anything!!! If you wanted to collect so quickly you should have emailed seller before even bidding to make sure that it was going to be ok. Sellers normally have 7 days to post so can only assume that they have 7 days to arrange collection with you too. Fraid you will need to be patient, if the seller has not got back to you by midweek then you may have reason to think theres a problem but not after circa 12 hrs!!!!!
if i had known then what i know now

I have just had a collection only item finish last night, not yet bothered to check ebay as was busy last night and now this is a BH weekend. I have 7 days to organise collection and as no bidders arranged collection, should they win, before the item ended, I will not be arranging collection till Tuesday.

Why would a seller be around whilst auction ends? If you have a question for example you should ask in advance, not 2 mins before it ends.

Also what makes you think that the seller would be availible for you to collect it today anyway? Who says they are not busy the whole of BH weekend?

I think saying your being impatient is an understatement!

I hope that if the seller can be availible for collection a few times over the 7 days you will leave them positive feedback?

I've certainly had items end while I've been at work or even away for a weekend. I always reckon as long as I'm back within 24-48 hours to answer any queries it will be fine.

Likewise I have put things into the free ads that are in my local paper which comes out early Friday morning, yet I often work all day Friday.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for the OP to be puzzled and annoyed by teh seller's absence.

Good sellers usually state on their listing 'I'm away until Tuesday 6th May and will be unable to deal with your sale until then." Or "Note to buyers with auctions finishing on a Friday - I don't work weekends and bank holidays and you'll just have to wait".

Bank holiday weekend is a great time to have a Collection Only auction finish - people are more likely to bid knowing that there is ample opportunity to pick up their purchase.

I sympathise with the OP and can see his/her point of view. I am at a loss to understand the seller's thinking.
