Morning all I bought 12 bags of bread flour at mr T's and decided it would probably be best to freeze it but forgot to take some out last night to make my bread this morning does anyone have any idea when it will be ok to use(I took a bag out of the freezer about an hour ago and have just transfered it into a bowl) also I know its recomended to freeze the flour for 48 hrs but as yet I have nowhere to put it all can it just be left in the freezer and used as and when I need it. tia

It doesn't really freeze so it is usable straight away, but I wouldn't use freezing cold flour to make bread. Let it come to room temperature first or put it in a bowl in a very low oven to warm it.
Yes, you can leave the rest of your flour in the freezer.0 -
Why is it recommended to freeze flour? I've never heard of this before.0

Its to kill the weevil eggs that are in flour I think its ok not to if the flour is being used straight away but by the time i get through 12 bags I think the chances of the eggs hatching are more likely0

does freezing actually kill the eggs or does it stop them from growing???THE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0

NEVER HEARD SUCH A LOAD OF BUNKUM!!!!!!! I was a buyer of food supplies for a large establishment for many years, and while the theory of weevils is quite valid, production and transport methods nowadays are so good that what you get is quite fresh. Absolutely no need to freeze, just keep the bags in as cool and dark a spot as you can, and keep your freezer space for the other better bargains that come along...............(meat, chickens, fish, raspberries etc etc etc ):j0

I keep between 6 and 8 bags of flour in my cupboard and it doesn't get buggy. I do have a pretty fast turnover though.0

I found weevils in my unopened bag of bread flour the other day - all my other open bags were fine - I think I will be freezing them from now on just in case!"All cruelty springs from weakness" - Lucius Annaeus SenecaPersonal pronouns are they/them/their, please.
I'm intolerant of wheat, citrus, grapes, grape products and dried vine fruits, tomato, and beetroot, and I am also somewhat caffeine sensitive.0
