Pay for new EU migrants

Perhaps some one with experience in this area can answer my question?

Basically, as the latest batch of new entrant countries are not yet full members of the EU, is it correct that, employers in any of the "old" EU countries are not bound by their own minimum wages agreements, ie they can offer any rate of paid - hence the stories of East European migrants working for a lot less than local nationals.

In effect the UK government deliberately allowed open entry to the UK job market of new EU countries nationals in order to undermine the national job market?

Thanks!

  • A UK employer is required by law to pay the minimum wage. It doesn't matter where the worker comes from. If they are working in the UK, they must earn the minimum wage.
