He refuses to pay

ok, here goes,

I think he has won. When I was in my early 20's I made a very big mistake, I practically gave my credit facilities to an ex partner. We were never married, but cohabited for just over two years.

I took out credit agreements in my name, which I had a verbal agreement that while we were together we would jointly pay and in the eventuallity that we split he would still contribute.

obviously this happened, and we came to a verbal arrangement that he would take on payment for an item of furniture. It became registered to his address but remained in my name.

In the mean time he stopped paying everything, and I mean everything. I got dragged throught the courts for bills which he claimed to have paid then left me to deal with them, he stopped paying joint loans as well.

In the mean time i have finished paying several loans and more that he helped accumulate

I have recently found out he stopped paying the loan roughly 2 years ago, after paying sporadic amounts for about 6 months, this has meant that it went to a debt collecters without my knowledge and has doubled in size.

I have been crippled by him for the last 2 1/2 years. I realise I have been very very foolish, but is there anything I can do to get him to take responsiblity? Im desperate, I dont know what to do. Please can someone help me

Sorry to say I think you are stuck here.

If the debts are in your name then they are your debts.

I was in the same position as you many years ago with my ex.

What you need is some good advice, so I would suggest that you re-post on the debt free board.

Also consider asking CAB for advice..........good luck
Aiming to be debt free....but still off target

i was in a simular positition myself years ago but he was such a horrible partner i thought it would be better to pay loans off myself and get him out of my life. You should go to a solicitor and take a civil claim against him or something.

Thanks for the replies, and if anyone else is having this problem or knows someone who is thinking of doing this slap them, sit on them, just stop them from doing it! What ever it takes.....
Happily I have spent all today going to the CAB and different solicitors and got advised to take responsibility at the debt collection agency as a first measure. It turns out that even though the initial agreement was in my name, the debt collection agency has no record of my name is is soley persuing him. I shall now be contacting all three credit record agencies to confirm this.
All I can say is I have been very very lucky so it would appear... there by the grace of (insert deity) go I.....

NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER TAKE OUT CREDIT FOR SOME ONE ELSE
