I have recorded TV programmes onto DVD's (-R) and need to burn them onto DVD's (+R) on my PC. However my NERO programme will not do it. So could you please, recommend a free software programme that will? I have windows XP.
Many thanks for all your help. I think you techies are brilliant.

Hi, just to clarify - you have a 'standalone' DVD recorder wired to your TV which records in -R format? And you want to be able to copy them onto +R using your PC's burner?
Why do you want to do this (if it's not too personal a question!)? Is it because you want to play back in another player that only handles +R? The PC's writer should probably be able to read -R and +R and Nero should be more than capable of the job. can you tell us the make and model of your DVD writer?

My problem is that I recorded from my shop bought DVD player on -R DVDs and found that on formatting many dvds then just went blank. I discovered that my DVD recorder was a +R (had not realised there was such a difference until then!!!) So I have a number of programmes on -R that I do not want to loose so dare not finalise the formatting. Solution? copy to +R on my PC and format them on the dvd player..
    My DVD drive is
    AOpen DUW1608/ARR 16x DVD+/- R/RW
I have tried with Nero but it does NOT accept the format.
    Many thanks.

There must be something wrong with your discs or drive then because Nero handles all formats. If your DVD recorder is +R only and you used -R discs then I'm afraid there won't be anything on them to recover.

But amazingly they do have the programmes on as I can play and have watched them on our Dvd player and they play. So they are there to recover. Thanks.

Then that has to mean the DVD recorder IS compatible with DVD -, they're completely different formats and so if it can record onto it, then it was designed that way deliberately. Sounds like it's more a problem with the format of the data and not the discs. And the burning software itself won't make any difference as far as I can see. See if you can copy an image of the disc and burn that (.ISO file).

You said earlier that you have not finalized the disks... I would not expect to be able to take unfinalized disks from a DVD recorder and access them from my PC. It may sometimes be possible but in general you should finalize disks before using them a DVD device other than the one that created them.

Can you post the make and model number of the DVD recorder?

If you have a FULL version of Nero, you can simply select the Copy Disc function.

You can download the full version from here.

See your Private Messages for more detailed installation instructions.
