Joint mortgage/ownership question

I am a first time buyer, currently looking for a property to buy & arranging a mortgage.
I will be living/paying the mortgage with my girlfriend, however because she is currently not working while looking after our young baby, I am applying for a mortgage just in my name to take advantage of the higher multiplier on my salary.
However, I am concerned about ensuring security for my girlfriend in the (hopefully!) unlikely event that we split up; she will be contributing to the deposit but I would also anticipate splitting the proceeds of any sale with her. My understanding is that under these purchasing circumstances, only my name will be on the deeds. Are there any ways around this - would getting married help?
Thanks in advance.

You should still be able to put your girlfriend on the mortgage even if she isn't working, and the mortgage company will just take your income into account. You will both be credit scored though.0
