Intelligent Finance Mortgage Discharge Fee HELP!

After reading all of the articles on reclaiming MEAFs, I decided to look at reclaiming a 'Discharge Fee' from Intelligent Finance.

I called IF after having had this mortgage from Sept 2006 to Sept 2007, and I paid a Mortgage Discharge Fee of 140 quid. They told me I could not claim any of it back as it states in my offer letter that there would be this fee if I paid it off early.

What I would like to know is if I can claim something back due to the fact that the FSA stated that it would take no more than 35-50 quid to administer the closure of a mortgage account? I was going to write to them and claim 90 quid back. Anyone else done this and any template letters. Cheers.

The FSA have said nothing of the sort.

The FSA ruling was that if the fee has increased over what it was when you started the mortgage and that fee increase is unreasonable then you can claim back the difference.

In your case, the fee never changed from when you took the mortgage out so you knew what the fee was when you started and that is what you were charged.
