Check out the Cooks Essentials range on www.qvcuk.com they are fantastic. They are not exactly cheap as chips as you put it, but are very good value and have a lifetime guarantee with them, which can't be bad. They can go under the grill and in the oven up to 500 degress which is hotter than most ovens will go. They are non-stick and you can use metal utensils on them. I have a set and would definitely recommend them and wouldn't go back to cheap pans for anything. The set I have, although they do do different sets and prices comprises of a big frying pan (which is great for doing roasties in!), a smaller frying pan, a small saucepan, a small casserole pot and a larger casserole pot, all with interchangeable lids and also a metal trivel to stand the pans on. My set was about £50, but as I said money very well spent.

Argos have some sets on offer at the moment that you could check out online. I think there is a post about a set on the Argos Board.

Sometimes Amazon have deals on them.
