Thanks for the speedy reply, Sue. I go off the scale when I'm stressed, so reading that is reassuring. Let's hope it applies up in Scotland, and if it does, you'd think the Housing Officer would know her stuff. Hmph.

I can't get anyone at the HA this afternoon..everyone's in a meeting. I phoned the Housing Benefit office, and you're right, Sue. I can get up to a month's "overlap" for the 2 addresses, which will help immensely.
Shelter reckon that most local authorities are trying to crack down on the overlap system for some reason. Which is why the HA told me I'd be liable for full rent after Tuesday.
Hopefully that'll get arranged ok. Shelter will be hassling them for the decant money after I pick up my keys.

my dad lives in glasgow and was moved from one sheltered housing to another 2 doors up .. because this was all to do with the housing departments fault. Ie gave a disabled man who uses a wheelchair a flat 1 flight up. they had to give him a 3 week overlap to help with the decoration etc which he had to fund himself but he wanted to do that .. so stick to your guns sounds like they trying to bully you into doing things they think you wont find out ...
oh and good luck with the move..
will be up in glasgow october so whens the housewarming party lolThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
Note that 'up to a month' and make sure you know how long you are entitled to it. It might be 'until you hand in the keys from your original tenancy as long as that's within a month' but I'd guess there are more stringent conditions than that ... Shelter may be able to advise!LouLou wrote:I can't get anyone at the HA this afternoon..everyone's in a meeting. I phoned the Housing Benefit office, and you're right, Sue. 'cos it costs them money in HB? And leads to difficulties with claims and overpayments as well: watch your payments carefully, make sure you tell them the minute you stop being liable for the rent on your original property, but also make sure that the rent is paid up to date on that!LouLou wrote:Shelter reckon that most local authorities are trying to crack down on the overlap system for some reason. Excellent! And of course if you're being decanted and the property is not being relet, you have to leave it empty, but I wouldn't see cleaning as a huge priority! As long as it's not gross, which I'm sure it's not.LouLou wrote:Hopefully that'll get arranged ok. Shelter will be hassling them for the decant money after I pick up my keys.
Good luck!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I heard from the Housing Association a few days ago..the Housing Officer said, "I've managed to get you all your disturbance money, you should get it after Xmas." Hooray!
Though it wasn't *her* doing, she was very unhelpful a few months ago, it's all thanks to your advice at MSE (and the nice people at Shelter).
Isn't it nice to have a happy ending! :xmassign:0 -
Delightful! Especially at this time of year. Hope you're very happy in your new home. And good to know Shelter were useful as well: I've been recommending them a lot lately!LouLou wrote:Isn't it nice to have a happy ending! :xmassign:Signature removed for peace of mind0
