Creditor Harrasment

Hi All,
One of our creditors included in my oh br has been harrasing us, even threatening to visit me in work to "discuss the matter". The origional correspondence, quotes, bills etc was all in my other halfs name but this most recent letter is in MR and MRS and I think they are trying to pull a fast one, not being that clever
The creditor in question is the plumber we employed to do the central heating and bathroom installation in our property. He consequently sub contracted to someone else who neglected to complete the bathroom, installation of the radiator in the bathroom, bathroom suite and shower, he also left a big gaping hole where the vent pipe for the boiler exits the house. We've already paid him all but £1,200 of the amount owed which included the work he should have done. Anyway I had cause to contact the police last year when we were still able to pay bills because his wife kept ringing me for a full 2 hours and refused to stop.
We contacted the or today to let them know about this and apparently the letters had gone out on 18th April and since this time we've received telephone calls and also a letter threatening us with a debt collection agency and that they would be calling on me in work. I have only just got a new job and have had to inform my new manager of the situation and thankfully he was very sympathetic and supportive. I've also had to contact the police again to let them know about her threatening to come into work because she turned up there last week and just stood staring at me, I didn't realise who it was until I saw her other half and the penny dropped. I felt quite intimidated by her actions. Today even after contacting the OR who said she would contact them straight away we had 3 phone calls.
Really what I want to know is where we go from here because I really think this lady is quite a "bunny boiler" and isn't going to let go of the debt that easily but that said I definatly don't want her coming into work chasing me for the debt basically because I don't want to lose my job when we have just been able to see the light at the end of the tunnel and my fuse is quite short at the best of times  and I'm really having to bite the end of my tongue off to do the right thing and contact the people who need to know about this.
It's frustrating because the stress this is all causing is exactly why we went br in the first place!
Any help / advice gratefully received.

Hi,
This kind of harrassment seems quite personal ...you actually know & live near them which is very scary! ( I have issues with MBNA at the mo...but at least they are some faceless call centre!).
I think you must speak to the OR again & discuss options for some kind of injunction that I believe can be enforcable by law if necessary! This person is clearly causing some distress & discomfort & needs a strong message to behave in the correct manner.
Let us know what happens.

hi, sorry to hear about your dilemma. I would list every time they call or form any type of harassment. This will be the most valuable piece of information you will need to start any action against them.
My OH went BR last week after i went in Oct last year, we had to wait to save up the pennys for his fees!!!! We are having trouble with Abbey, who ring up tp 10 times a day - im very tempted to change my number..... ooooh on that note ring BT can tell them about the phone calls that are harassing, they will do a electronic phone record of how many calls and they can stop this number calling you.
Gladyour new boss is so understanding - just keep calm if she comes in again, and remember if you offer any money to her/him then your breaching your OR rules as you are favouring certain creditors. You can say that in your defence!!

go to the police, i can understand both sides here but from what you say maybe he shouldnt pay his subbies, unless the put the job right, id be tempted to try to get it sorted and smooth it over, lifes a long long road........
a lot of my debts were run up by paying off trade suppliers, most were bigger and nastier than me whereas (as you say) mercers, fredriksons, and mbna are just a call centreNow we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0 -
Thanks all for your replies.
Guess what? Her OH IS a police officer  as well as a plumber
I emailed the OR last night and received a reply from them today saying that she was unable to get hold of them on the phone number we supplied, we had the same problem which tells me THEY are in trouble not answering the phone to potential "customers". I also noticed on their latest letter head that they had gone limited but I'm going to check on this because there was no registered address or company reg no on the letterhead.
The OR said that she had fired off another letter to them "which should make things a lot clearer for them", which says to me she's told them exactly where they stand should they persue the debt.
I'm not scared of her just don't need al this added s**t and the hassle of it all of course. He seems quite reasonable it's her who is the bunny boiler. The fact is that even if the br hadn't happened we wouldn't be paying them the rest of the money in anycase because they didn't complete the work. They tried previously to pass the debt onto a debt collection agency but when we told them they hadn't completed the work the debt collection agency wouldn't have anymore to do with it.
I think for the moment we've done all we can unless it kicks off again of course, will keep you posted because at least if someone else goes through it they have some reference point in this thread of how to deal with difficult creditors who get "personal".
Will keep you posted, thanks for all your help guys!0 -

We were the same, firefighting and paying those who were shouting loudest until it all got too much and we had to throw in the towel, best thing we ever did as the stress of it all was killing my oh and not doing our relationship any good either. We don't have the preverbial pot to p**s is now but at least we're a lot happier and that's the important thing.0 -
You could take anote of all the harrasement, go to your doc, tell them you are stressed, keep on taking notes e.t.c wait until you get discharged and then sue them for emotional distress and start out your freash life with a nice chunk of cash for their hassasment! hahaBankruptcy Supporters Club No.1790

You have to report this harassment to the police - regardless that the plumber seems to be a policeman too.
I'm sure his employer won't take too kindly to the fact that a policeman is breaking the law.
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

if hes a cop with service, and a pension to look forward to he should be wary of complaints....Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...0

Hi,
I have reported it and the person who took the complaint said I don't think he's that dull to be doing something like this, it's obviously her who wears the trousers. I feel sorry for him because she obviously bullies him and gets away with it but I don't bully that easily see, comes from experiencing it at school, lets just say I learnt to stick up for myself pretty quickly.
Will keep you posted.0
