Experience a little of authentic France: enjoy Normandy's Calvados region
The true spirit of Normandy!
The Calvados coastline which in 1944 witnessed one of the most epic chapters in World history is today the playground for families and sports enthusiasts from far and wide. The military vehicles have been replaced by sand yachts and wind surfers or perhaps the horses from the Deauville stables on their early morning trot.
Venture inland through the fields and orchards of the Pays d’Auge to the river valleys and their magnificent escarpments of the Suisse Normande or the splendid abbeys and chateaux constructed from pastel shaded stone and brick. History has left its mark on Calvados from the chateau in Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror via the Tapestry in Bayeux which recounts one of his greatest achievements to the stark and thought provoking reminders of the D Day Landings.
Picturesque fishing harbours like Honfleur, chic resorts such as Deauville, Trouville or Cabourg, historic towns and cities like Caen, Lisieux and Bayeux, or sleepy villages of timber fronted houses like Beuvron en Auge – Calvados has a variety of places to enjoy in a relatively compact area. But you don’t just have to visit Calvados – you have to ‘taste’ it as well. The splendid cheeses, oysters from the Bessin, cream and dairy produce and not forgetting its apple products of cider, pommeau and calvados.

Was scratching my head thinking why I couldn't see United Kingdom or England in the Country selection box. Then the voice of my old French teacher mysteriously echoed in my head...
"England is also known as Angleterre".
That's for those compers who decided to take German GCSE instead.
Good luck and thanks Rrickyuk for another great competition! Now even more in debt... to Catz747 and now Toniq as well!0
