going private rate for a crown

went to my dentist yesterday to find out the cost of getting a crown fitted and i've been quoted £395! does sound about right? It's a porcelean crown as it's one of my front teeth so don't really want a dull metal one (that one is only 50 quid cheaper anyway).

Was also quote £350 for home system teeth whitening - again, is this about right?

Vanity is expensive! lol

I had a white porcelain crown put on one of my molars about 6 years ago - cost me £250. That cost was on top of a root canal treatement and a failed white filling, making the cost for that one tooth over £400.

Not sure how much prices have gone up in the last few years, but IMO £395 doesn't sound too outrageous! (But probably more than you would prefer to pay!!)

OH had a home whitening kit from his dentist earlier this year - cost him around £200

    Hope that helps

My dentist charges £385 for Cerec crowns which are made and fitted on the spot, I love mine as it matches perfectly and feels nicer than my own teeth!

I paid nearly £400 in Cornwall 2 years ago.
Had a mouth cast taken, temporary thing put in place. Then the post and the crown.

The post would have added to the bill.

If it were just the crown, it would probably have been about £100 cheaper.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I had a gold crown fitted last year because dentist said gold is really hardwearing and it is near the back of my mouth. I love it - it glints! Cost was £290 compared to £300 for a white one.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time
