Can I Remortgage from outside the UK?

Hi ... a newbie here and a friend recommended this place as the place to answer by question about whether I can remortgage my UK property while I am outside the UK? 
I have tried my current lender and had no joy. My mortgage is currently a personal one and I understand I may be able to change to a BTL product but I'm unsure about how to go about this or if it is possible from outside the UK.
