"The real problem that I've identified is the lack of disclosure of off-balance sheet activities. Now that cannot be allowed to continue," Brown said."
He's identified that has he ? It slipped past him during his 10 years as chancellor though when he really should have noticed lol.0 -
GB is running scared, after all these years when he has been telling big TONE that he could do a better job, he has really gone and blown it0

Totally agree, this guy is a loser.I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.0 -
This is why banks won't lend to each other as they don't know who has got the biggest debt. Once they show their hand then the markets can assess the risk. The ones with the least or that think they have the least will tell first. Those that keep quiet the longest will probably be hiding the most. To take handouts from the BOE the banks should be forced to disclose the figures and come clean. Honesty is the best policy. All debtors are told to fess up to their nearest and dearest and understand what they owe so why aren't banks being told the same?

Bit ironic from GB moaning about keeping things off the balance sheet as he is keeping that 50BN off and all the PFI also keeps borrowings off his balance sheet too.0 -

He was done for when he didn't cut and run and call an early election in his honeymoon period following taking over the labour leadership. The writing was on the wall for the economy and house prices and he must have known it. If he didn't know it then he has no business leading the country.
He would have won it, no problems, at the time. Maybe a slight reduction in the Labour majority but still a comfortable win.
Now he has to go to the country within the next couple of years and conditions are just going to get steadily worse from here on in. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Tories didn't want to win the next election given the mess they would have to take on.
With such bad political judgement he doesn't deserve to lead the country.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

I can't believe the sheer brass neck of the man.
What about the BILLIONS kept off balance sheet by him through dodgy, poor-value PFI deals?...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
It is moving. Southwards. Go on GB, hurry it. Get it back on this planet where real people live.0

I agree but I'm not so sure Labour would have won. If Brown thought he could have won he would have gone for it - but he had to decide between a. losing an election and becoming the shortest lived PM ever, or b. sticking it out until 2010 meaning he would at least have had two years of power, and perhaps even some miracle that would get him re-elected. (still could happen). Being 'prudent' he chose the latter.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
How can GB square "getting the housing market going" with his anxious concern for first time buyers?
Why not let the market, rather than government, make the adjustment for once, you idiot!
Even you'd be slightly more relaxed if you hadn't stupidly said you'd abolished boom & bust.0 -
Until about 72 hours ago AFAIK he didn't think there was any problem - least he's now acknowledged it - shame he didn't get off his ar** sooner.0
